Presenter Information
I was born in Nottingham in the 1960s, and now live in Earby, Lancashire. Like many people up-and-down the country, I’ve had a very keen interest in Hospital Radio for many years, and joined Nottingham Hospitals Radio (NHR) in 1985, thinking that I’d become the next ’big thing’.
After a period of ward-visiting (the best part of Hospital Radio), fundraising, studio training, programme presenting and just about everything else involved with a successful station, I became Deputy Station Director of NHR from 1989 to 1991. In 1993, and after many months of negotiations, I, along with a few of my former colleagues from NHR, went on to build and launch Radio Robin at the Ilkeston Community Hospital near Derby. Having raised over £15,000 in just two years, we finally did our first broadcast in July 1995. I became Station Manager of Radio Robin in 1994 until moving North in 2000, and in that time saw the station become one of the many jewels in the Hospital Broadcasting Associations’ crown. To celebrate Radio Robins’ 5th birthday, during July 2000, I, along with the rest of that small but dedicated team, ran a very successful FM Restricted Service Licence (RSL), RADIO ROBIN fm, which meant that we reached a much wider audience. An experience never to be forgotten! I was planning to ‘get back into’ Hospital Radio, when, in September 2003, I was involved in a very serious road accident whilst at work resulting in the amputation of the lower part of my right leg.
So, I set about creating a programme which, hopefully would appeal to most listeners young and old alike, and in such a format that would suit their varying listening habits. ‘The A to Z of pop!’ has been created especially with Hospital Radio listener’s in mind, in the hope that they would soon recover from their illness or infirmity having enjoyed listening to, and supporting their local Hospital Radio service. |
